While Apprentices and staff haven’t been able to work on boats in the last month, they have come up with all kinds of creative ways to train their hands and eyes at home. Here are a few of the things they’ve been up to:
Andy’s been drawing up plans for a 540 square foot house. “We've been getting quotes for a foundation and hope to start in the next few weeks!”
Liz purchased a milk frother and has been getting her coffee game on! “During these quiet days at home, I’m enjoying my morning coffee leisurely and with pure joy. My son has also adopted the frother and enjoys a perfect cappuccino with his breakfasts.”
After spending some time spiffing up his basement shop, Joao built this media console to house his records and player.
Maria Alexia has been working on this needle felted fruit still life as she listens to audiobooks and podcasts. When the weather is nice out, she’s also been in the yard working on her Susan Skiff. “It’s been feeling really good to do something with my body again.”
When he’s not outdoors, waist-deep in rushing water with his fishing pole in hand, Nate has been practicing the art of tying flies. Here are a few examples of his handiwork.
Early on, Kyle built himself a mini bow shed to house his bench-top lathe. He has been turning prolifically since then. Here is one of the pieces he turned.
When they aren’t baking bread or working out in the yard, Kevin and Trish have been tearing down walls in their new house and building some back up. We can’t wait to see all of the changes to the interior!
Josh has been working on building a rocking dragon for his nephew. The project is in the final stages - getting coats of paint and primer - so it can be delivered before his nephew gets too big for it.
Susan has been painting every day, doing studies of the objects in her house or painting playful watercolors to send as postcards in the mail with lovely handwritten notes. It’s been a treat to open up the mailbox and find one of her paintings in there.
Emma set up her table loom and has been trying her hand at weaving. In addition to all of her on the water skills, Emma is an incredible knitter and fiber artist.
Daniel and Annie have been constructing all kinds of things on Daniel’s property, including a tent platform, tire swing playground, and this wood-fired outdoor bathtub.
Bella moved to a new apartment a few weeks ago and while she is working hard to keep day-to-day operations of the ‘Shop running, she’s carved out a little time to unpack and organize her closet by color. Sometimes, it’s the little pleasures that matter most.
When Nina isn’t working or cooking up a storm, she’s been in the garden, doing some clean up and getting ready to plant these little seedlings she started on her windowsill.
